Arthritis is the leading cause of disability of the US. There are three types of arthritis: osteoarthritis (the most common), rheumatoid arthritis, and post-traumatic arthritis. Arthritis means “inflammation of the joint,” and results in pain, tenderness, stiffness, reduced range of motion, and swelling.
Physical Therapy for Arthritis
Although there is currently no cure for osteoarthritis, there are treatment options such as physical therapy. Our physical therapist will provide a customized treatment plan for your arthritis, which may include moist heat, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, therapeutic activities, massage, stretching, and paraffin. Arthritis patients also often benefit from acupuncture. It’s important to seek treatment for arthritis as soon as possible – with proper physical therapy, arthritis sufferers are able to manage pain, stay active, and live fulfilling lives – often without surgery.
